Dental Bridges in Greenville, SC

If you have a missing or severely damaged tooth, you know how challenging having an imperfect smile can be. It’s important to get a tooth replacement option sooner than later. While a missing or damaged tooth may seem like nothing more than an aesthetic dental concern, leaving a missing or damaged tooth untreated for an extended period of time can lead to long-term oral health problems, such as shifting teeth. At Trail West Family Dentistry, we are proud to offer many restorative dental treatments, including dental bridges. Before scheduling a free consultation with our compassionate team, here’s what you should know about how a dental bridge can benefit you.

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are devices that are used to “bridge” the gap that is caused by one or more missing teeth. They are made up of two dental crowns that are placed on the two anchoring teeth on the outside of the gap, also known as the abutment teeth, with a prosthetic tooth in between, called a pontic. Abutment teeth can be natural teeth or dental implants. Dental bridges can be made from a variety of materials, including gold, porcelain, or a combination of the two. At Trail West Family Dentistry, we most commonly use porcelain bridges for their strength and beautifully natural aesthetic.

How Do Dentures Work?

Dental bridges offer many benefits to people who are missing one or more teeth. These include:

  •     Improving your smile’s natural beauty
  •     Alleviating pain caused by a missing tooth
  •     Preventing other teeth from shifting
  •     Boosting self-esteem
  •     Making talking and chewing easier
  •     Restoring your oral health

What is the Process of Getting a Fixed Bridge?

If your general dentist determines that you’re a good candidate for a tooth bridge, you can expect the process to occur over the course of several appointments. At your first visit, the dentist will remove a tiny amount of the enamel around the two abutment teeth that will support the bridge. Next, he will take impressions of your mouth to send to the dental lab where your bridge will be made. While you wait for your permanent bridge to be complete, a temporary bridge will be placed in the gap from your missing tooth. Your temporary bridge will be removed, and your permanent bridge will take its place at your final appointment. In some cases, a follow-up appointment may be necessary to ensure your bridge fits properly and make adjustments as needed.

How Long Will a Tooth Bridge Last?

If you take proper care of your dental bridge, you can expect it to last around 15 years. The best way to keep your fixed bridge in good condition is to practice excellent oral hygiene habits every day at home and visit the dentist twice a year for routine dental exams.

Tooth Bridge Cost

Your dental insurance may cover part or even all of the cost of your dental bridge. Please contact our office to learn more about what your particular dental insurance covers.
